Mumbai: Imtiaz Ali is doing his rounds of theatres and getting reactions from youngsters about his film 'Tamasha'. He does this self-reviewing exercise after every film. Talking about the reactions he got from youngsters he said, “You get to witness honest reactions, the effect of what you have done on people. I am more pleased with the reactions from the younger audience as they dig in deep into the movie. Today in Delhi a girl told me, thank you for making films that are relevant to us. The youngsters are connecting to the turmoil, which Ved and Tara go through. All of these things that were supposed to be unsafe in the movie, these are the things people are connecting with. Two people said they liked Rockstar more, one girl said she didn’t like the film. I saw the last one hour of the film at Priya Cinema in Delhi and it was awesome! The audience were laughing, whistling and screaming.”
He feels that the audience expected the film to be fluffy. “I think they wanted the film to be more fluffy. I met a guy who had gone for a date and he was disappointed because after the film they ended up having an intense discussion about the film.”
So can that reaction be because of the way the film was promoted? “Yes, perhaps. But even when Deepika and Ranbir were conveying the message correctly what was being received was that it is another love story that they have done. I don't know what else we could done to promote it better.”
The film is getting fantastic reactions but what does Imtiaz think about the box office, “We are getting good reactions and people are connecting which is what we were aiming for. When I had met the producers for the film they agreed to make it because they wanted to make it. So it’s picking up and we are hoping to get a number as we still have time. It's the kind of film that will grow on people."
