Hyderabad: Having achieved uninterrupted power supply in Hyderabad within six months of coming to power, the TRS government has now set uninterrupted water supply in Hyderabad in the next six months as its goal.
Panchayat raj minister K.T. Rama Rao on Friday said the government was well on its way to achieve this goal in GHMC limits
Mr Rao, along with his Cabinet colleagues Talasani Srinivas Yadav and T. Padma Rao Goud, told the media at the Secretariat that the government has already started constructing two reservoirs of 30 tmc capacity in the city to meet drinking water needs of Hyderabad, besides successfully bringing Godavari water to the city.
He reiterated that providing quality power and water to Hyderabadis remained the top-most priority of the TRS government and so far, Rs 2,800 crore has been spent on Hyderabad alone.
“Hyderabad was grossly neglected by the governments in undivided AP. They lacked vision to build even a single reservoir in the city despite being in power for nearly 60 years. They just relied on Osmansagar, Himayathsagar, Singur etc, all built during the Nizam era, to meet the drinking water needs, while the city expanded by leaps and bounds with population touching one crore,” Mr Rao said.
