Criminal cases filed against 32 officials

According to sources, the accused misappropriated more than Rs 1.20 crores of funds in the department

Kakinada: In a scam related to  medical and health department, arrest warrants have been issued against 32 medical and health personnel out of 35, including 13 medical officials in the Agency area. 
 
According to sources, the accused misappropriated more than Rs 1.20 crores of funds in the department.  One of the employee Vijayakumar lodged a complaint with the department higher authorities and also vigilance officials who framed charges against them in two years back. 
 
However, none of the officials took action against them. Recently, Vijayakumar filed public interest litigation on the scam in the High Court which issued orders for taking action. 
 
District Medical and Health Officer Dr N. Uma Sundari said that four junior assistants and two senior assistants were suspended and criminal cases have been booked against the accused in seven police stations such as Rampa-chodavaram, Addateeg-ala, Rajavommangi and Boduluru. 
 
She said that stern action would be taken against those medical officers involved in the scam. Meanwhile, sources said that though the charges were framed against the accuse two years back, six accused got promotions as senior assistants, another six members services have been regularised. Sources said that two doctors who were accused in the case died and one official has been retired from the service.
