Private bus operators triple the price of tickets
Vijayawada: There is huge demand for Chennai-Vijayawada bus services as train services remain cancelled due to heavy rains in Chennai. A sizable number of people, especially software engineers belonging to coastal districts residing in Chennai city are now coming back to their native places. Presently, train and air services are totally disrupted due to heavy rains but only bus services are available.
In this backdrop, the private bus operators are taking advantage of the situation by collecting higher amount. Now they are charging Rs 2,500 per each ticket, which is three times higher than the actual fare. On the other hand, the APSRTC is operating services nominally. Now the software employees of coastal districts have got permission to work from their home.
According to the victims, the demand is high for bus services from Chennai to Vijayawada and several parts of coastal districts. One Lakshmi, who is working in TCS, Chennai, reached the city after facing severe hardships. She said that the private bus operators collected Rs 2,500 per each ticket and earlier they used to pay Rs 800 only. No one is in a position to think about bus fares and as priority is to leave Chennai, she said.
On the other hand, the APSRTC is operating only two services from Vijaya-wada. RTC Vijayawada zone regional manager P.V. Rama Rao said that they are operating only two services from Vijayawada city as the occupancy rate is dull to Chennai. Speaking to this newspaper, he said that they are coordinating with officials of the RTC Nellore to clear the rush from Chennai to Vijayawada.
