Bengaluru: A day after saying that erstwhile Janata Parivar factions were coming closer after the spectacular Assembly poll victory in Bihar, former Prime Minister Mr H.D. Deve Gowda dropped hints that he may not come under “Wheel symbol” at the national level, as suggested by Bihar Chief Minister Mr Nitish Kumar.
Mr Gowda, who could not hide his displeasure over a splinter group of JD(S) in Kerala headed by former MP Mr Veerendra Kumar merging with JD(U), said regional parties of the Parivar could retain their identities and yet work on a common platform.
On Thursday, Mr Nitish Kumar had said that he would hold talks with Mr Gowda and take a final decision on having the Wheel as the unified party’s symbol after the Janata Parivar merger at the national level.
Meanwhile, the JD(S) splinter group in Kerala has merged with JD(U) while the JD(U) in Karnataka has not agreed to merge with JD(S) till the national merger, though the JD(U) does not have a significant presence here.
“Since 1999, I have toiled to retain the identity of the JD(S). A merger may create more confusion among workers. Instead of a merger, we can work on a common platform, retaining our respective identities. We can have a common minimum programme,”he said.
