Minorities panel says ‘no’ to playschools on top floors

Hyderabad: The State Minorities Commission for AP and Telangana has recommended the district educational officers in TS not to allow primary, play, and nursery schools to run on upper floors of the buildings.
 
Commission chairman Abid Rasool Khan said that the commission has suo moto taken up the case of the tragic death of four-year-old girl Syeda Xainab Fatima Jafri in the lift of Sri Chaitanya’s Star Kids School, a playschool, near Moosarambagh.
 
He said that the GHMC zonal commissioner and the police submitted their reports to the commission, holding the school management responsible for mishap. 
 
Mr Khan said that the authorities closed the school after it was found that the building was constructed in violation of rules.
 
Keeping in view the safety of the kids, the commission has recommended the DEO to form teams inspect all schools and examine whether they are being run as per rules and regulations.  
 
The commission advised the DGP, Fire Safety, civic authorities and the DEOs to form joint committees and discuss and finalise modalities for single window inspections and clearances to schools. 
 
The commission also recommended the TS government to pay '10 lakh as compensation to the family of the girl.
