BengaluruFive days after his arrest, the police have not been able to extract any “critical” information from Mohammed Hussein Ali Qureshi (21), a resident of Kalaburagi and a nameplate artist and vendor of a local Urdu daily, who was arrested on December 2 from the Sambra Airport in Belagavi on sedition charges.

Qureshi has been handed over to Kalaburagi police for further interrogation. “We have handed over the case to Kalburgi police for further investigation,” said Belagavi Police Commissioner S. Ravi.
The Belagavi police had seized a large collection of photographs and videos of vital public places and installations from across the state from Qureshi, which he said was part of his assignment from the editor of his news daily – Ejaz Behari, who has also been reportedly ‘arrested’ along with his photographers Javed and Akbar for questioning. “So far, we have not been able to get any important information from the arrested men. It is too early to say that they are part of a terror module,” said a senior police officer.

“The photographs of sensitive places could also be part of Qureshi’s internship at the news daily. We cannot, however, ignore that all of them are of crucial public places. The investigation will take some time,” he said. Qureshi had photographed more than 36 crucial spots, most of which were of crowded public places like airports, railway and bus stations, railway tracks and premium government buildings like Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru and Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi.
