GHMC spent on officials not woes

Only 23 per cent of the total funds were spent on civic works in wards.

Hyderabad: Of the Rs 9,037.43 crore spent by GHMC during 2010-15, Rs 2,168 crore was allocated to the 150 wards of the corporation and the rest was spent at the head office for council meeting, corporator tours, major road development, new schemes.

This means only 23 per cent of the total funds were spent on civic works in wards. Wards big and small got the same amount. For example, Motinagar with 92,770 voters was allotted Rs 21.72 crore, while many other wards with less than 30,000 voters also got the same amount.

Rajendranagar with a population of 40,000 spent Rs 48 crore during the five-year period. A reply to an RTI query revealed that Shalibanda could spend 99 per cent of the funds and IS Sadan, 40 per cent. In 116 wards, more than 70 per cent funds were used by the corporators.
