Hyderabad: Female quadruplets were born to G. Nalini from Tuni in East Godavari district at Yashoda Hospitals, Secunderabad, on Friday night. The babies were premature, delivered at 32 weeks, and weighed 1.2 kg. They have been kept in the Intensive Care Unit and will be under observation.

Pediatrician and neonatologist Dr T.P. Karthik said, “All the organs of the babies are fully developed, but they have to be given a support system for another few weeks. We will start them on mother’s milk at 34 weeks and observe their growth.” Ms Nalini came to the hospital when she was 16 weeks pregnant and the first scan detected the  quadruplets. She was thereafter under the observation of a team of gynaecologists, led by Dr Bhagya Lakshmi and Dr M. Madhavi.

This was Ms Nalini’s first pregnancy and the children were conceived naturally. The father, Mr G Chandrashekar, a teacher with a government school in Tuni, said, “I am very happy and am sure that the babies will be out of ICU soon.”
