Hyderabad: TRS chief and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday told his party leaders to be ready to contest and win all the 12 MLC seats from the local body constituencies.

Mr Rao also announced Tera Chinnapa Reddy, an arch-rival of Congress senior leader K. Jana Reddy as the TRS candidate from Nalgonda district, after coming to know that the local TRS leaders have mobilised a majority of the voters to a camp, thus ensuring victory over the Congress nominee.

Earlier, negotiations were on between the TRS and Congress to reach an understanding on contesting seats based on the parties’ actual strength in the respective districts. However, Mr Rao told his party leaders that it would be better to go alone and contest all the seats.

The TRS is confident bagging 10 seats and it will try to grab the other two seats from the Congress, though the latter party has significant strength to win one seat each in RR and Mahbubnagar districts.

TPCC leaders are of the view that any understanding with the ruling party would be detrimental as it is openly encouraging defections, like admitting Congress MLC M.S. Prabhakar two days ago.

“When TRS leadership admitted our MLC to their party undemocratically, how can we sit with them for negotiations over MLC seats? Our cadre across the state is uneasy with the talk of negotiations with the TRS. We may talk to other opposition leaders seeking support for Congress candidates,” an important TPCC functionary told DC. Another senior Congress leader from Mahbubnagar district said that the party needed to now talk to the TD and other parties to get support.
