Left, AAP leaders extend support for beef fest in Osmania University
BJP MLA Raja Singh said that he would disrupt the beef festival
Hyderabad: The police attempt to stop politicians from entering the Osmania University campus failed as Left and AAP leaders attended an all-party meeting on the campus and supported the students' move to conduct a beef festival.
The police arrested MBT leader Amjadullah Khan when he left his house to go to OU campus. “Dabeerpura police came to my house and arrested me saying that I am not allowed to enter Osmania University,” said Mr Khan.
Former CPI MP Azeez Pasha, CPM leader Mallu Swarajyam, AAP leader professor Vishweshwar Rao, activist V. Sandhya of POW (Progressive Organisation of Women) and some others attended the meeting and expressed their solidarity with the beef festival organisers.
“These leaders supported our cause and we will go ahead with the beef festival without any hesitation,” said E. Arunank, the state general secretary of the Democratic Students Union. He added that students had not asked permission from the police or university to conduct the festival.
“There is no provision in university laws that we should take permission from the police to conduct an event on the campus. Then, why should we get permission from them, ”Arunank added.
While students belonging to 25 organisations declared that they would hold the 'beef festival' on December 10 on the campus another group of students announced that a pork festival would be held on the same day. BJP MLA Raja Singh said that he would disrupt the beef festival.
