Winter fails Lambasingi, tourists return heated
Temperatures at Lambasingi have been hovering around 15 degrees
Visakhapatnam: The winter chill is yet to set in at most of Andhra’s favourite tourist destinations in Vizag Agency, such as Lambasingi, Tajangi and Chintapalle, which failed to attract tourists this winter.
The first week of December usually sees 500 to 600 tourists from other parts of AP visiting Lambasingi, which is called ‘AP's Kashmir’, and the other places, the roads choked with SUVs and other luxury vehicles. But this year, there are not many tourists here, says V.B. Padal, a resident of Lambasingi. The sharp cold, thick fog and scenic beauty, common sights in these parts, have been missing until now.
Although the mercury has dipped, the temperature is higher than what it should be at this time of the year. Temperatures at Lambasingi have been hovering around 15 degrees Celsius since the past two weeks while it was 5 degrees Celsius last year.
Officials from the Met and the Regional Agriculture Research Centre (RARC), Chintapalle, who records the local temperature variations, said that winter was yet to come.
Last year, Lambasingi and Chintapalle in Vizag Agency were in the grip of an intense cold wave, with thick fog hanging heavy over the town until 10 am. Cloudy weather due to low pressure and the absence of western disturbances account for the current relatively high temperatures, according to the weathermen.
“I visited Lambasingi with my friends a few days ago to enjoy the cold and the thick fog in the wee hours of the morning. But the weather was disappointing,” says V. D. Rao, a resident of MVP Colony, Vizag city. If the winter sets in by the end of this month they will go to Lambasingi again, he added.
