Officials told to complete work on lakes by June

Hyderabad: Irrigation minister T. Harish Rao has asked officials to complete lake development work that had been sanctioned before June 2016 as the government has already released Rs 100 crore.
Speaking to reporters after reviewing progress of the lake development and beautification project taken up by the government in GHMC limits, Mr Rao said there are there are 169 tanks spread over 625 sq km in GHMC limits, of which 26 are in Hyderabad, 133 in Ranga Reddy and 10 in Medak districts.
“So far, the government has completed survey in respect of 155 tanks, of which work was sanction for 64 tanks and Rs 100 crore released. Tenders have been called for 37 tanks and development work already started in 14 tanks,” the minister said, adding that engineering officials have been directed to see contractors begin work within a week of the agreement. He said officials should act tough against encroachments on tank beds and in Full Tank Level areas.
