Ashwin, who was playing his 12th Test series, joined the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag by winning his 5th Man of the Series award.
There was a moment that defined Ashwin’s awareness of his own record. While Sanjay Manjrekar was not sure about Ashwin’s record, the off-spinner was quick to correct the former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator.

Overjoyed with his own and team’s performance in the series, Ashwin said, "I think it is a great feeling, a fitting finale to a wonderful series.”
South African batsmen, especially the quartet of Bavuma, Amla, de Villiers and du Plessis, displayed tremendous vigil on fourth and fifth day of the Test.
While Ashwin admitted that South Africa played out of their skins, he also said India were always looking for a win. Ashwin said, “We were going for it (victory), we fought really hard, they dug in really deep.”
When asked about Jadeja’s contribution, Ashwin was wholesome in his praise, saying, “There was a massive support from Jadeja, he hits the stumps so often.”
Ashwin made it a point to appreciate Umesh Yadav’s three-wicket haul on the final day of the Test.
