Bengaluru: Girl jumps to death after boyfriend’s funeral
Puja jumped to her death from the terrace of a 10-storey building on Kasturba Road.
Bengaluru: A 22-year-old placement executive jumped to her death from the terrace of a 10-storey building on Kasturba Road after attending her boyfriend’s funeral in Yelahanka on Monday.
The deceased, Puja Jadhav, was an employee of Babajob Services Pvt Ltd, an online job portal company at Prestige Obelisk on Kasturba Road, from where she jumped. Puja’s boyfriend Charan N.B. died in a road accident early on Sunday morning, while on his way to Nandi Hills. Puja, who attended the funeral on Monday morning, committed suicide around 2.30 pm, her colleagues told Deccan Chronicle.
Traffic came to a halt on Kasturba Road after motorists learnt about the death. “We initially thought she had fallen, but employees, who were around, and the police confirmed it was a suicide,” said Amjad Khan, a commuter.
Puja had gone from her office on the fifth floor to the top of the 10-storeyed building without anyone noticing. She had written a death note apologising to her family for her decision and had also scribbled ‘Missing you Charan,’ with a pen on her left wrist. She had kept her vanity bag and phone at a corner of the terrace before jumping to her death, the police said.
Puja and Charan joined Babajob Services at its branch on Residency Road on the same day four months ago. “Today (Monday), she had not even logged in. I saw her in the morning and asked her to take leave and go home as she looked disturbed and depressed. She just smiled at me and said she would take leave tomorrow,” said her colleague Prafulla Chandra.
Puja’s elder sister Rupa Ajit was inconsolable at the morgue at Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital, where the body was brought for the postmortem. “I called her in the afternoon and she told me she was having lunch. If she had even given me a hint about her problems, I wouldn’t have let this happen,” said Rupa.
Puja is from Kalaburagi where her parents also reside. Earlier, she was staying at a paying accommodation and had recently moved to her sister’s house in Byatrayanapura. She and her brother Manoj stayed with Rupa, who is married. Puja’s parents are on their way to the city.
