Chicken price gets wings in Nizamabad
Skinless chicken is costing Rs 150 per kg
Nizamabad: Rising chicken prices have left consumers worried: skinless chicken is costing Rs 150 per kg as against its usual price of Rs 100-Rs 120. Both wholesalers and retailers in Nizamabad have increased prices over the last two days ostensibly due to the marriage season.
According to market sources, chicken prices were down to Rs 100 per kg last month with poultry farmers having incurred heavy losses due to this steep drop. A few of them were even transporting the chicken to sell in neighbouring Maharashtra.
Srinivas Reddy, a retailer, said that with the demand for chicken increasing over the last 10 days, prices had increased too and could rise further. The price hike had granted poultry farmers some compensation for their losses, he opined. G. Mahesh, a customer, said that they were surprised by the skyrocketing prices.
“People choose to eat chicken in the winter, but the prices are prohibitive,” he said. Meanwhile, egg prices have are also gone up and garlic too, from Rs 120 to Rs 240 per kg for the fine quality type.
