Illegal spirit flows to AP, Telangana from Goa
The police also raided an unauthorised distillery in Goa and seized a godown.
Anantapur: Unauthorised distilleries in Goa have been spearheading the spurious liquor trade for AP and Telangana, causing serious harm to human lives. Spurious liquor of all brands, including those marked ‘defence supply’, is being sold with the collusion of local political leaders in Anantapur and Kurnool.
Kurnool district level representatives and also members of the MPTCs have faced allegations of involvement in the ‘Goa trade’ last December. The Anantapur prohibition and excise police a few months ago busted a gang with 800 boxes of Haywards and Bagpiper bottles packed into a truck that was covered with noodle packets and potato chips, complete with fake invoices to be shown at the check posts at border areas.
The police also raided an unauthorised distillery in Goa and seized a godown and nabbed kingpin Ramaiah of Karnataka. “These liquor bottles look exactly like the original ones manufactured by the licensed breweries and bottling units in AP, Telangana and defence sector as the units were preparing the stickers and seals,” said Gooty Excise Inspector K.Rajasekhar. He added that 2 more persons are to be nabbed in the case.
