Local liquor distillers use inferior quality of spirit and other ingredients to earn profits
Vijayawada: The sudden deaths due to consumption of adulterated liquor has exposed the illegal practices adopted by wine shops and local liquor manufacturing units. Soon as the news of the deaths spread, a majority of the shops across Krishna district immediately closed their shutters fearing raids by the excise officials.
Local liquor distillers use inferior quality of spirit and other ingredients to earn profits. These substances cause trouble to those consuming liquor. Further, the unhygienic conditions in which the liquor is manufactured deteriorates the quality. Often, cockroaches and other insects are found in the liquor bottles indicating the harm they can do to health.
However, the bar owners manage to sell even the inferior quality of liquor. A majority of the consumers buy cheap liquor. If they go for IML, they buy it in small quantities which is given in loose. Taking advantage of the addiction of people, owners of wine shops and bars adulterate the liquor and people get used to consuming it.
Soon as news of the deaths spread, people began flocking at the bar and kin of the deceased were found crying inconsolably. Police and people were found in large numbers at the Bar. The bodies were shifted to the government general hospital for post-mortem. People said they have been complaining about the bar since long.
