Multi-storied central block at King George Hospital soon
The new building helps meet the medical needs of the next generation, said KGH Superintendent Dr Madhusudan Babu.
Visakhapatnam: The King George Hospital (KGH) in Visakhapatnam, which serves as a lifeline for patients from north coastal Andhra Pradesh as well as Odisha, is all set to get a high-rise central block.
The 10-storied new block, which would be built with funds raised through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme of PSUs such as Vizag Steel, SAIL, ONGC, etc., would provide many medical services at one place.
Speaking to this correspondent, KGH Superintendent, Dr M. Madhusudan Babu said, “Bringing all the vital services such as Radiology, Oncology, Laboratories and Critical Care units, which were scattered in the KGH, under one roof can definitely help offer better and rapid services to the patients. Tenders will be floated within one to two days.”
While the ground floor of the multi-storied block would comprise of Oncology, the first floor would house Radiology services. “All the ICUs, critical care centres, surgical theatres, anaesthesia services, orthopaedic wards and special rooms would be shifted into this building. The new block would also have an auditorium with a seating capacity of 300 for medical seminars and other purposes,” Dr Madhusudan Babu added.
During his recent visit to Visakhapatnam, health minister Kamineni Srinivasa Rao informed that they are going to complete the new block as soon as possible.
Deputy executive engineer, AP Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation (APMSIDC), M.S. Prabhakar, informed that government has already released about Rs 7 crore to go ahead with the project. “Administrative sanctions were allotted for this new project and tender works will be kick-started within a few days,” he added.
“The new building helps to meet the medical needs of the next generation, with a special focus on serving underprivileged sections. The high-rise central block, comprising multi-disciplinary and most advanced facilities, will help dole out best-in-class services to the patients,” he said.
