BENGALURU: In order to put an end to duplicate and fake bills draining BBMP coffers, the civic body has created road history with comprehensive data on roads. Of the eight zones in BBMP three zones have updated 100 per cent on road history. If road history manual were prepared earlier it could have prevented a whopping Rs 1,539-crore scam in three zones — Rajarajeshwarinagar, Malleswaram and Gandhinagar, said sources and added that this should hopefully prevent duplication of bills and make contractors liable to fix the roads during defect liability period.
Engineer-in-Chief M. R.Venkatesh told Deccan Chronicle that the road history will detail carriage way, other infrastructure such as drain, trees, cables, width of medians and width of footpath. There has been a strong demand for road history, especially after the BBMP was rocked by a multi-crore scam involving officials and politicians. Former commissioner Siddaiah laid emphasis on road history to prevent claims for bogus bills.
There are 82,946 ward roads and 879 intermediate roads across all eight zones. The number of arterial and sub arterial roads are 114 and 287 respectively. The primary purpose of road history is to provide some vital information in public domain, he added. For instance, it will comprise the amount of money spent on asphalting on a particular road, name of the contractor with defect liability period and name of the engineer under whose supervision the work was executed.
This will be given a unique code. If any contractor in connivance with officials tries to claim bogus bill, the road history will pop up the previous history, Venkatesh added. The three zones which achieved 100 per cent on road history are — Dasarahalli, Mahadevapura and Rajarajeshwarinagar. The other zones have progress in the range of 92 per cent to 97 per cent. Two kinds of road history have been prepared. One for roads and road works taken up at all ward levels and the second for the arterial and sub-arterial roads.
