Telangana to levy Re 1 transport cess on petrol, diesel
Over Rs 300 crore would be the additional burden on motorists every year due to this levy.
Hyderabad: Citizens in Telangana will have to pay more tax on fuel if the World Bank has its way. The World Bank has suggested levying Re 1 tax per litre of petrol and diesel to raise funds for development and maintenance of transport infrastructure.
Over Rs 300 crore would be the additional burden on motorists every year due to this levy. The Telangana State government is seeking World Bank funding for taking up transport infrastructure projects in the state.
The bank has already given in-principle approval for setting up Telangana State Road Development Corporation through which it will mobilise the funds. The state plans to transfer core roads under the ambit of TSRDC and take up their development with World Bank funds.
