Capital development: Rs 27,097-cr to build Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh tells Lok Sabha

New Delhi: An expert committee appointed for the new capital of AP has suggested an estimated Rs 27,097 crore as the cost for building Amaravati, the Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday. Minister of state for home Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary said in a supportive document submitted alongwith the report, that the committee had indicated Rs 10,519 crore as the cost of buildings in the capital, Rs 1,536 crore for infrastructure, Rs 5,861 crore for city infrastructure and Rs 9,181 crore for city infrastructure growth extension.
“The total amount indicated to this regard is Rs 27,097 crore. A fund of Rs 1,850 crore has been provided to the successor state of Andhra Pradesh for the state capital and infrastructure facility during 2014-15 and 2015-16,” he said.
Centre assures to pay for Polavaram project:
The Centre assured that it would pay for the construction of the multi-purpose Polavaram project which is likely to be completed by March 2018. Replying to a question by Dr T. Subbarami Reddy, Union minister of state for water resources Prof Sanwar Lal Jat said in the RS that the Centre was committed to bearing all the expenditure for the project incurred from April 1, 2014, as per the provisions of AP Reorganisation Act. He said the AP government had spent Rs 439.98 crore during 2014-15 and Rs 1,991.33 crore up to September 2015.
The Centre had reimbursed Rs 345 crore to the AP government. He said about 34 per cent of the works had been completed by September last. He said that as per a Cabinet note, undivided AP government had spent Rs 5,135 crore up to March 31, 2014. The balance of Rs 10,874 crores (based on 2010-11 levels) will be borne by the Centre.
