Will pay for Polavaram project: Centre
The Centre had reimbursed Rs 345 crore to the Andhra Pradesh government.
Hyderabad: The Centre on Tuesday assured that it would pay for the construction of the multi-purpose Polav-aram project which is likely to be completed by March 2018.
Replying to a question by Dr T. Subbarami Reddy, Union minister of state for water resources Prof Sanwar Lal Jat said in the RS that the Centre was committed to bearing all the expenditure for the project incurred from April 1, 2014, as per the provisions of AP Reorganisation Act. He said the AP government had spent Rs 439.98 crore during 2014-15 and Rs 1,991.33 crore up to September 2015.
The Centre had reimbursed Rs 345 crore to the Andhra Pradesh government. He said about 34 per cent of the works had been completed by September last.
He said that as per a Cabinet note, undivided AP government had spent Rs 5,135 crore up to March 31, 2014. The balance of Rs 10,874 crores (based on 2010-11 levels) will be borne by the Centre.
