Warangal: Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari has alleged that the BJP and TD were plotting against Telangana state to block its share of the Krishna river waters.

Addressing newsmen here on Wednesday, Mr Srihari said that it was ‘very unfortunate’ that the Centre was acting without any concern for the problems of the newly-formed state.

The united AP government had moved the Supreme Court, opposing the verdict of the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal in November 2013. It had called it unscientific. Later after the formation of Telangana state, the TS government too appealed to the Central government and Supreme Court to include it in the dispute for allocation of the Krishna river waters, Mr Srihari said.

He alleged that both AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Union minister M. Venkaiah Naidu had joined hands to deny the Telangana state its rightful share of water.

“In 2013, the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal delivered a verdict, taking into consideration the opinions of united AP, Karnataka and  Maharashtra states for their share of the Krishna river waters. After the Telangana state was formed, the tribunal's verdict needs to be re-examined and allocations made to four states instead of three,” he said, demanding that TS leaders of both the BJP and TD respond to the issue.

Even though the movement for a separate Telangana started because people there felt they were being subjected to injustice by Andhra leaders, the discrimination was continuing even after the state had been formed, Mr Srihari said. He alleged that the BJP and TD were taking unilateral decisions without consulting the TS government.

Mr Srihari explained that the seven mandals in Bhadrachalam division were merged into AP against the wishes of the people. Besides, though the Telangana state was reeling under a severe shortage of power, the lower Silair power plant was handed over to AP.

He declared that the Telangana government was going to launch both a legal and political battle for attaining the rights of the people.
