Kannur University to create software for single window admissions
Authorities plan to implement system from next year.
Kannur: Kannur University will develop its own software for the single window admissions for the UG and PG courses. The University authorities are planning to implement the system from next academic year. The Information Technology department of the University will be responsible for developing the software. The syndicate of the varsity has also given approval for the decision.
The University started the single window system last academic year for UG courses with the technical support of Kerala University. However, for the PG courses the single window system could not be used as the Kerala University authorities refused to take up the burden. This led the Kannur varsity to develop its own software for admissions to both UG and PG.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Kannur University Registrar Dr Balachandran Keezhoth said that the single window admission process to UG were very successful last time. “Calicut and Kerala universities have full-fledged IT wings with better facilities and staff. However, we have acute staff shortage and we forged a tie-up with Kerala varsity. However they had issues for taking up PG admissions. But the UG admissions were very successfully managed without too many complaints,” he said.
“This time we needed to bring both UG and PG to a single window and hence the decision was taken. We have highly talented and resourceful teachers under Dr G Raju of School of Information Science & Technology and as we need staff strength we are looking for alternatives too,” he added.
The team will soon start working on the development of software.
