Hyderabad: Following several complaints about water turbidity by consumers, the city water board had asked the Institute of Preventive Medicine to check the quality of water. Accordingly they reported that at the Water Treatment Plant at Mallaram, the treated water’s turbidity is within permissible limits, that is the turbidity of the treated water is 0.55 NTU which is below the permissible limits of 10 NTU. The ph value is 7.48 which is also within the permissible range of 6.5 to 8.5.
Water board MD D. B. Janardhan Reddy, said, “As the supply is from the Godavari Scheme through the newly laid pipeline, in spite of treatment of water as per norms, it is observed that there is turbidity at the consumer end. Thus officials have been asked to increase the dosage of chlorine at the Lingampally Master Balancing Reservoir as well as at all respective reservoirs immediately. We have told customers that in spite of water treatment some turbidity will be visible on account of new pipelines. We have told them not to panic about quality of water and advised them to have filter at their end and conserve water." The city water board is supplying Godavari drinking water to Quthbullapur, Kukatpally and parts of Erragadda, Sanathnagar and Banjara Hills. At presently 56 MGD of water is being supplied.
