KOCHI: A team comprising a lawyer and five policemen accompanying a convicted criminal in search of a piece of evidence followed an unprecedented order by the solar judicial commission probing the multi-crore solar scam involving Biju Radhakrishnan and Sarita S Nair, promoters of a private solar company, on Thursday.

Adding to the drama was the chase by the television channels and airing of visuals live.

Earlier in the day, the commission appointed a team to accompany Radhakrishnan to seize a set of CD, which allegedly contains incriminating sex and sleaze evidence against Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and ministers.

The police team reached Coimbatore late in the day but failed to unearth the CD though they visited two separate locations.

The police team took Radhakrishnan to a house in Selvapuram and then that of one Chandran, said to be a relative of Radhakrishnan, where he said he had kept the alleged CD.
The team, however, failed to unearth the CDs.

Earlier in the day, as soon as Justice G Sivarajan started the proceedings, Radhakrishnan claimed that there are three sets of the CDs, of which one is with the police, another at an undisclosed place outside Kerala and the final set outside the country.  He also filed an application seeking time till February 15 for submitting the CDs.

When the commission declined the plea for more time, he said will be able to produce a set of CDs in 10 hours if he is granted time. He, however, refused to reveal the location where he kept the CD.

The commission invoked rule 4 (b) of the Commission of Enquiry Act, and appointed a team, led by the commission’s counsel Hari Kumar, to trace the CD.

It, however, declined Radhakrishnan request to allow his counsel to accompany him. The commission ordered five policemen to accompany the team.

The commission’s team left for Coimbatore at 3.45 pm from Panampilly Nagar where the commission's office is situated.

The Commission during the course of hearing observed that Radhakrishnan’s allegations against six persons including chief minister and two ministers shall not be permitted to hang over the government for long as a the sword of Damocles and determine the fate of a state government’’,
