Thiruvananthapuram: The capital will host the state's first-ever Cyclathon to promote cycling and raise awareness about healthy lifestyles and the need to reduce the risk of diseases through regular exercise.
Registrations have begun for the Trivandrum Cyclathon 2016 which will be flagged off on January 24, 2016 from Manaveeyam Road.
It is being organised by Stark Expo in association with the district administration and various cycling groups in the city, including the Indus Cycling Embassy and Trivandrum Bikers' Club.
The cyclathon ranging from 2. 5 km to 40 km will course through some of the city's greenest and cleanest spots and arterial roads.
"Regular cycling is known to protect people from lifestyle diseases such as heart attacks, stroke, obesity and arthritis, besides improving mental health: a message that the Cyclathon aims to spread through fun-filled cycling activities", said an organiser.
The event offers riding challenges to people of all ages and abilities - ranging from the Stark Kids Fun ride covering 2.5 kms to the 40-km Champions Ride, a test of strength and determination.
The Trivandrum Fitness Ride covers 14 kms and a 20-km Team Challenge has been designed for groups of cyclists, including from corporate firms and other interested institutions.
All finishers will be presented medals and all participants given certificates, and there are attractive prizes for winners in all categories, with a top prize of Rs 25,000 for the Champions Ride challenge and a trophy for winners of the team event.
