Hyderabad: People will henceforth be fined for littering in the Secunderabad Cantonment area. The fine will be Rs 500 if the Municipal Solid Waste Management (SWM) rules are implemented following the nod of the Ministry of Defence.
The fine will be the same for not maintaining clean surroundings and for non-segregation of waste at home. Meanwhile the fine for dumping hazardous waste (hospital garbage ) on roads will be Rs 10,000.
The SCB is implementing the Goa Cantonment by-laws. SCB CEO Ms Sujata Gupta said that the SWM draft would be sent to the MoD for approval. Once the MoD gives a green signal, the penalties will come into force.
Separate fines will be collected for dumping debris in the SCB area. The draft by-laws will come into force from the date of publication in the official gazette.
The SCB area generates 110 tonnes of garbage per day and pays GHMC '15 lakh per month to transport the same.
Meanwhile ward members informed the Army authorities that leftover food from the Army mess, which is given to store keepers or workers, is being sold to a few communities who feed the same to cattle. The Army has agreed to streamline the process.
