Mumbai’s Jay outshines Yuvraj
Tamil Nadu skipper Abhinav Mukund slams century against Assam in Vijay Hazare.

Hyderabad: Skipper Yuvraj Singh blasted a brilliant 92 but could not prevent Punjab from going down to Mumbai by five wickets in their Vijay Hazare Group ‘A’ one-day cricket match at the Gymkhana grounds in Hyderabad on Thursday. Chasing 255 for a win, Mumbai opener Jay Gokul Bista came out all guns blazing. The right-handed batsman hit 92 runs from just 87 balls. Jay’s knock contained 12 fours and one maximum. Abhishek Nayar, who remained unbeaten on 44 — hitting five fours — played second fiddle. Shashank Singh added 39 to the team’s tally. For Punjab, Siddarth Kaul was the pick of the bowlers as he took 3/58 from his stipulated 10 overs.
Earlier, sent into bat first, Yuvraj led the charge as he slammed six fours and six sixes during his 93-ball stay at the crease. Mandeep Singh (41 runs) was second best while Manan Vohra added 35 to the team’s tally. For Mumbai, Sagar V. Trivedi shone with the red cherry with figures of 3/21 from 7.1 overs. Dhawal Kulkarni also impressed with the ball as he picked 3/41.
In another match, riding on Abhinav Mukund’s fantastic 104 from 101 balls Tamil Nadu (214/4 in 41.1 overs) thumped Assam (210 in 49.4 overs) by six wickets to pocket four points in their Group ‘A’ encounter at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal. At Railways ground, Services (230/7 in 50 overs) defeated Rajasthan (167 in 41.3 overs) by 63 runs.
