HyderabadJustice Raja Elango of the Hyderabad High Court on Friday granted bail to Ramesh Kumar, father of Pratyusha, while refusing bail to Ch. Chamundeswari alias Syamala, the stepmother of the victim and the prime accused in the case. It may be recalled that 19-year-old Pratyusha was rescued from the clutches of her stepmother Syamala in July 2015 in the city. The police arrested Ramesh Kumar and Syamala on July 9 and they were sent to judicial remand.

While opposing the bail petitions moved separately, additional public prosecutor D. Rami Reddy said that Syamala had brutally tortured the victim with an intention to grab the property on her name. If released on bail, there was a possibility of the witnesses being threatened, he said. A division bench comprising acting Chief Justice Dilip B. Bhosale and Justice S.V. Bhatt of the Hyderabad High Court on Friday reserved its decision on a petition seeking review of Tuesday’s interim order that gave the go-ahead for the appointment of junior civil judges.

Senior counsel S. Satyam Reddy had moved the PIL, seeking stay on judicial appointments till bifurcation of the HC. He contended that allowing the recruitment process to go on as per the notifications issued, even when the TS government had framed its own rules, was not proper in the eyes of the law.

SEC told to look into voters’ complaints:

Justice C.V. Nagarjuna Reddy of the Hyderabad High Court on Friday asked the State Election Commission to look into complaints that voters belonging to one ward were allotted to another ward in the GHMC.
The judge was dealing with a writ petition filed by former BJP corporator Bangari Prakash and two others, saying that they are voters of Mehdipatnam but were listed in Asifnagar and Gudimalkapur wards following delimitation.

GHMC counsel P. Kesava Rao said the complaint was being verified and the petitioners would be informed by the evening. The judge said that after getting a final word from the GHMC, the petitioners may make a detailed representation to the SEC.
The judge asked the SEC to ensure the officials act independent of political pressure.
