Kochi: An unseemly war has ensued between the newly-elected Kochi mayor Soumini Jain and Ernakulam district collector MG Rajamanickam with the mayor choosing to revoke some of the decisions the latter took when he held the charge of the mayor for a brief period, and the collector hitting back throwing the rule book at her.

The matter came to a boil when the corporation council in its first meeting on Thursday decided to remove the name of Mr Rajamanicakm from the list of mayors in the corporation.

Mr Rajamanickam, appointed as interim mayor as a technical formality for less than a month with the ending of the term of previous council and the formation of the new council, has recorded his name on the roaster of the mayors of Kochi Corporation.

When the matter was brought up in the council when it met for the first time on Thursday, Ms Jain said that the collector’s name will be removed from the list. She had also blamed the regime of collector as mayor for finalising the logo and tag line of the proposed Smart City project for Kochi.

The collector hit back ordering the Regional Transport Officer to seize the vehicle of the Mayor plying with the beacon light on Friday as the mayor is not on the list of dignitaries allowed to display it.

The collector chose to attack the council further  for discussing ther issue of tagline and logo in its first meet itself. In an official Facebook post, he cited the ills of the city such as bad roads, unplanned construction and stinking streets, and wondered why the council chose to ignore such issues and discuss the logo and tagline instead.
