Actor Silambarasan Rajendar aka STR, whose middle name is controversy, is once again in the news, for reasons outside his films. An independent track titled ‘Beep Song’ crooned by Simbu and composed by Anirudh, has been leaked on social media, and is now the talk of the town for its liberal use of cuss words being derogatory to women. At a time when Chennai is reeling from the calamity of the floods, Simbu’s seemingly insensitive act has attracted severe criticism.
However, the actor is defiant over his actions and responds furiously — “I am not answerable to anyone, nor do I need to justify the song (its content rather). It has been done in my privacy.” The audio track of ‘Beep Song’ starts with the line Enna P********ku Love Panrom, and though the cuss words are beeped out, it can be easily understood by listeners.
The VTV star adds, “I work on various genres of songs at home with my composer friends like Yuvan Shankar Raja, Anirudh etc. In fact, I have more than 150 songs saved on my computer! Sometimes, if anything from my collection suits any of my film sequences, I use them after the director’s approval. Ani and I composed this particular track at one of our jamming sessions about a year and a half ago. Someone stole and leaked it online.”
On asked if he suspected anyone, when only close friends have access to his private room — Simbu carefully replies, “It’s with me as well as Anirudh. Lot of our friends liked the song and were listening to it then.” He also admits that he has even composed another song which is full of swear lyrics throughout, but meant for his personal compilation. Simbu adds, “You can comment on songs which appear in my films – I even faced backlash for the likes of Loosu Penne, Where’s The Party Tonight, and so on. But for a song, which is unofficial and not meant for usage in any film, I am not bound to give any explanation! It’s like entering my bathroom and interfering with my privacy,” he concludes. Blame it on technology or friends; Simbu sure is in a ‘spot of bother again. We tried to contact Anirudh for his comments, but the composer wasn’t available as he is in Toronto for a concert.
