Cochin Carnival from today
The event which ends on January 1 will, however, be officially opened on Dec 20.
KOCHI: The Cochin Carnival, which attracts tourists from various parts of the world and exhibits traditional and cultural arts and competitions, will begin on Sunday.
The annual event lasting last till January 1, however will be officially inaugurated on December 20, with hoisting the Carnival flag at the Vasco da Gama Square.
On Sunday, the ‘Ceremony of Peace’ will be held at the Martyrs Monument near St Francis Church, Fort Kochi. Musical performance by MM Orchestra at Vasco da Gama Square in the evening will be the highlight of the day.
Sports events like beach bike race, beach football, cycle race, boxing, wrestling, bullet race, swimming and marathon races will be conducted to attract youngsters. For children, competitions such as fancy dress, recitation, drawing and light music will also be held as part of the carnival.
The carnival will come to an end with a grand procession on December 31 evening and the ceremonial burning of Pappanji on December 31 midnight.
