Steel crossbar halts highway lorries
The restriction came as a surprise to many traders.
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metro Rail has constructed steel pillars to block heavy goods carrying vehicles near Exhibition Ground at Nampally, where work is in progress to construct viaducts.
Trader Mohammed Yunus said, “Heavy vehicles loaded with goods enter the market area from here as the road is wide. But now that is not be possible. We will now have to unload the goods near the highway and ferry it in small tempos to our shops.”
The restriction came as a surprise to many traders. Mr Rajesh Raju, who deals in spices, said, “The officials did not inform us of their plans. This has been put up all of a sudden and we are yet to understand how to transport our goods.”
A senior engineer with Hyderabad Metro Rail said, “The work on the viaduct is getting affected to to the movement of heavily laden vehicles. For that reason we took precautionary measures.” The traffic police stated that the steel cross bar had been placed by HMR as a safety measure.
