Shaan Rahman’s kitty is full
Music composer Shaan Rahman is at the peak of his career with soundtracks of nine movies readying up in his studio.
It has been around seven years since he debuted as a music composer in Mollywood through Mammotty-starrer Ee Pattanathil Bhootham. Though he could make many chartbusters, include those for Thattathin Marayath and Ohm Shanthi Oshaana, for the first time in his career, Shaan Rahman has got an opportunity to compose the sound tracks for nine projects at a time — two of them releasing in less than a month.
“I guess it is the very first ‘best time’ in my career as well as in life. Though I could become part of many good films and could contribute hit songs, it is for the first time that I get nine films falling in different genres. Adi Kapyare Koottamani (AKK) will be the first release from these,” says the composer, who has crooned all the songs in AKK, along with Vineeth Sreenivasan, Arun Alat, Ramya Nambeeshan and Vidhu Prathap.
A regular composer for Vineeth Sreenivasan’s movies, he has sung for his own compositions earlier, but it is for the first time that he is rendering all the sound tracks for a film.
“It was not a deliberate move. In fact, I was planning to use some other singers, but when director John Varghese and producer Sandra heard those rough tracks I had sung, they wanted me to sing for the originals too,” says Shan, who has experimented Malayalam Rap in the film.
“I was much confused while trying rap for Ente Maavum… song as it is for the first time a Malayalam rap is being used in my sound track. It was completely an experimental move, but post release, I could see that song is getting good responses,” says Shaan, who has another completely different film gearing up for release.
“Rajesh Pillai’s Vettah is extremely opposite to AKK. When AKK is an out-and-out fun film, Vettah will be a thriller. It is my second thriller after Vineeth’s Thira. For Vettah, I have composed a love song by blending the Sufi-styled track and two theme songs,” says the music director, who has completed the composing of Vineeth’s Jacobinte Swargarajyam.
“Writer Iqbal Kuttipuram’s next, Roshni’s Prithviraj film and untitled projects of Kunjiramayanam-fame Basil Joseph, Ohm Shanthi Oshaana director Jude Anthany Joseph, Philips & the Monkey Pen director Shanil Mohammed and Aadu-fame Midhun Manuel Thomas’ Sunny Wayne film are my next,” Shaan sums up.
