Hyderabad: The AICC on Sunday summoned Telangana State Congress leadership to Delhi for a strategy meeting on the political situation in the backdrop of the party’s candidates withdrawing their nominations in favour of TRS candidates for the MLC seats.

TPCC chief N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Leaders of Opposition in the Legislature K. Jana Reddy and Shabbir Ali, and Greater Hyderabad City Congress president Danam Nagender have been asked to attend the meeting at AICC headquarters on Monday evening.

It is believed the party will review the situation in TS, including the GHMC polls.

The AICC has reportedly sought reports from each leader, seeking his views on the affairs of the party, post-Warangal situation, the steps taken to instill confidence among the party cadre in the backdrop of the TRS continuing its attempts to weaken the main Opposition party by encouraging mass defections.

It also took serious note of the development wherein Congress MLC candidates, along with others, withdrew from the contest to enable the TRS bag six seats unanimously.

As far as GHMC polls are concerned, the party is worried over the prospect of retaining its majority of 2009. Even though Mr Nagender has agreed to work for the party after much dilly-dallying, its preparations for the GHMC polls leave much to be desired.
