Chennai: Picking holes in chief secretary Gnandesikan’s justification of the delayed opening of Chembarmbakkam reservoir, which is believed to be the main reason for the recent deluge, DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin on Monday reiterated that only a commission of inquiry can bring out the truth behind the issue.
Recalling the chief secretary’s statement in which the CS had claimed that 10,000cusecs was released from Chembarambakkam Reservoir at 10 am on December 1, Stalin drew people’s attention to the state’s top most bureaucrat’s mention in the same statement that Chennai district collector had sounded flood alert after ordering the release of 7,500 cusecs from the lake at 11.20 amon the same day.
Wondering whether the chief secretary’s statement or district collector’s statement was true, the former deputy chief minister said the truth would be known only if a commission of inquiry is constituted. He also ridiculed the chief secretary’s assertion that CM or CS or PWD secretary the consent was not needed.
