Woman tries to abduct baby from Gandhi, held

 

The police has not yet ascertained why Nagamani, a mother of three children from RK Puram, tried to kidnap the baby boy. During the initial interrogation, the police could not link her to any major racket. Police said the incident occurred after 1 am, when the homeless woman named Jyoti was brought to hospital by emergency services. “Jyothi was living on the footpath a few kilometers away from the hospital. After receiving an alert from some locals 108 ambulance officials brought her to the hospital. Nagamani, who was present near the maternity ward, walked in with the patient stating that she was a relative of Jyothi,” said inspector K. Srinivasulu. 

 

The homeless woman had no one with her when she was brought to the hospital as her husband was not living with her. After Jyothi gave birth naturally, doctors and nurses left the ward entrusting her to Nagamani. When Jyothi fell asleep Nagamani took the baby and walked out. “After midnight no guards were present near the ward’s door. She went to an autorickshaw parked inside the compound and asked him to take her to RK Puram. Becoming suspicious he alerted us and we immediately went there,” said a guard from Gandhi Hospital. 

 

They soon alerted the police who took Nagamani into custody. “When we questioned her, she did not reveal much. Now she has been sent to judicial remand.  We will take her into custody and interrogate her to find out why she was present at the Gandhi hospital and why she wanted to kidnap the infant,” said inspector K. Srinivasulu.
