Annul child marriage: Cabinet to Union government
Cases were filed against parents of under-aged children, but marriages were condoned.

BENGALURU: The cabinet on Wednesday decided to recommend to the Union government annulment of child marriages by amending the relevant Act besides imposing a fine on those encourage such weddings.
The move came at the end of a discussion on a report submitted by the core committee for prevention of child marriages headed by former Lokayukta Justice Shivaraj V Patil.
So far, cases were filed against parents of under-aged children, but marriages were condoned.
As per the committee’s recommendation, marriages must be annulled till the girl and boy gain adulthood. Besides, the committee had recommended levying heavy fine on parents of these boys and girls and those who arrange the alliance. As the Act concerned was passed by the Union government, the recommendations would be sent to New Delhi for consent, according to sources in the cabinet.
Other key decisions
Granting and handing over 10,814 acres of government land in 15 districts, which are included in land acquisition by KIADB. KIADB would have to settle disputes over ownership of land.
Distribution of 25 acres land to various education institutions belonging to 15 communities in Sira taluk, Tumakuru district, which was recovered from encroachers.
