Arunachal Pradesh Assembly area locked up

House Speaker directs magistrate to lock assembly premises.

After the Assembly premises was locked, the sitting of the House was held at a makeshift venue.

Guwahati: In an unprecedented development, the winter session of the Arunachal Pradesh assembly was conducted in a makeshift premises at Techi Takar Community hall at Itanagar where 33 legislators of 60-member Arunachal Pradesh Assembly passed a unanimous resolution for impeachment of the Speaker Nabam Rebia.

The winter session of the assembly was shifted to a new location after the formal permission of Arunachal Pradesh Governor J.P. Rajkhowa.

Earlier in a dramatic development, the speaker of the Arunachal Pradesh assembly Nabam Rebia who was facing impeachment motion directed a magistrate to lock the assembly premises.

The 33-legislators who arrived to attend the winter session of the assembly were not allowed to enter the assembly premises. The angry legislators approached the Governor who granted them permission to hold the winter session of the assembly in a makeshift premises. The 21 rebel Congress MLAs joined hands with 11 of BJP and two independents to ‘impeach’ Assembly Speaker.

The deputy speaker Mr T. N. Thondok who was asked to chair the winter session of the assembly following the impeachment motion against the Speaker, selected a community hall to conduct the proceedings of the House which was video graphed in presence of media.

The leader of opposition Tamiyo Taga moved the impeachment resolution against the speaker Mr Rebia, which was adopted unanimously by 33 legislators. The deputy speaker submitted the copy of the resolution and video of the assembly session to the Governor Mr Rajkhowa for his approval.
