Hyderabad: The Telangana state government has decided to create five new municipalities in Ranga Reddy district by upgrading gram panchayats. The new municipalities would be Jalpally, Meerpet, Jillelguda, Boduppal and Peerzadiguda. Official sources in municipal adminstration department said that the orders to this effect were kept on hold due to ‘model code of conduct’ being in force for ongoing MLC polls under local bodies quota. They said the orders will be issued soon after completion of MLC polls on December 27.

They said the government is actively considering to upgrade few more gram panchayats on city outskirts covering Medak, Nalgonda and Mahbubnagar districts. At present, Telangana state has 38 municipalities and the government is planning to increase the number to 50 within a month.
