Lucknow: UP DGP Jagmohan Yadav has landed himself in a controversy by saying that ‘rapes were committed even during Ram Rajya’.

The DGP, who is due to retire at the end of this month, further said that rapes were a common phenomenon in all states. He said police were unable to completely stop crimes against women.

Asked to comment on the series of violent incidents in Pratapgarh district in the past one month, the DGP said, “You all know who is behind what is happening.”

Meanwhile, the BJP termed the DGP’s statements as ‘loose, unwarranted, cheap and irresponsible’.
