Recently, several actors and cricketers including National Award-winner Vidya Balan and Virat Kohli signed a petition through PETA seeking to uphold the ban against the bull-taming sport of Jallikattu in Tamil Nadu. But when Amy Jackson, who is presently shooting in Chennai for the Rajinikanth-Shankar magnum opus Enthiran 2.0, a sequel to Enthiran, tweeted in support of the ban, it has created a stir and dragged her into controversy.
Tamilar Munnetra Padai, a self-styled moral policing outfit from the city headed by Veeralakshmi, is protesting against the British-born actress and demanding that Amy be dropped from the project. Speaking to DC, Veeralakshmi said, “Hailing from Britain, Amy does not know anything about the valorous sport of Jallikattu. She has no business supporting the ban on the Tamilian veera vilayattu.” Adding to this, she says, “We came to know that she is playing Rajinikanth’s pair in the sequel, which is directed by Shankar. We have demanded that she be removed from the film and have given the filmmakers three days’ time. If they fail to do so, we will protest in front of Superstar, as well as Shankar’s homes on Monday, December 21.”
She also clarified that they are not protesting in front of Nadigar Sangam premises saying, “We have requested the Nadigar Sangam to remove Amy’s name, if she is a member of the association.” Amy’s tweet has also received mixed reactions from other Twitteratis.
