Cops rescue student from child marriage in Telangana

Parents had forced the 15-year-old girl to marry her brother-in-law after her sister died.

Hyderabad: A Class IX student who was forced to marry her 45-year-old brother-in-law was rescued by the police on Thursday in Mahbubnagar district. Her parents had forced the 15-year-old girl to marry her brother-in-law after her sister died.

The girl studying in Class IX is  the second daughter of  S. Laxmi and Josyanayak. They had married off their elder daughter to Ermal Nayak, 45, nearly 12 years ago.  A few days ago, the girl’s parents decided that their daughter should marry Ermal. The marriage was scheduled for Thursday. But the girl, informed the police. The police rushed to the spot. “We rescued her and stopped the marriage,” said SI Krishna. The officials counselled the girl’s parents and the groom.
