Kochi: The news of a High Court judge punishing two policemen for not honouring him enough has touched some raw nerves within the force so much so, the wife a policeman on Thursday shot off a post-card to the judge taking umbrage at his unprecedented action and reflecting the agony it has caused to her.

In her letter sent to Justice P D Rajan’s residential address, Soumya, wife of a policeman serving in the city, listed the uncertainties the cops face in their daily life.

Addressing the judge repeatedly as chetta (elder), a crime for which the judge allegedly made two policemen stand for an entire day at the court room, she pointed out that a cop has no security either for his job or his life. “The recent suicide of Shaji (Kozhikode) is an example,” she said in the letter. “We also have self respect and basic human rights."
