Hyderabad: BJP and TRS leaders have engaged in a “housing war” in the city as GHMC elections near. While BJP leaders are inviting applications to “allot” houses funded by the NDA government at the Centre, TRS leaders too are asking people to apply for TRS government-funded houses.
BJP Uppal MLA N.V.S.S. Prabhakar went a step further and set up 300 counters to receive applications. He said that the BJP has every right to seek applications since the NDA government has recently sanctioned 2 lakh houses for TS. As many as 56,250 applications were received at these counters in a single day.
TRS leaders held separate application melas the next day leaving the applicants confused.
“Recently, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao met Union urban development minister Venkaiah Naidu and sought allotment of 2 lakh houses to state. The minister approved this instantly. Moreover, the Centre is giving Rs 2.50 lakh for each house constructed by the TS government. Since this is the sop given by NDA government, as a BJP MLA, I have every right to receive applications for the houses,” Mr Prabhakar said.
TRS Greater Hyderabad president Mynampally Hanumantha Rao said, “This is nothing but cheating by BJP leaders. The TRS government is spending up to Rs 9 lakh to construct each 2BHK house, while the Centre’s contribution is only Rs 2.50 lakh. Moreover, there is no 2BHK concept with the Centre. While this is the reality, how can BJP leaders claim credit for housing scheme and invite applications from the people?”
TS-BJP president G. Kishan Reddy said it was the TRS which was cheating the public with name-sake foundation laying programmes for 2BHK houses in city without allotting funds or calling tenders, to gain votes in GHMC polls.
“In my constituency, foundation was laid to construct 104 2BHK houses last week. Not even a single paisa was released or tenders called for their construction. Foundations are being laid every day in different locations. TRS leaders are inviting applications from people and threatening them that they would not get 2BHK houses if they don’t vote for TRS,” he alleged.
