Hyderabad set to host 20 new IT firms
Ranjan said the government intends to encourage some IT companies in setting up their non-critical operations in tier-2 and tier-3 cities.
Hyderabad: After Google’s announcement of setting up its largest campus outside US in Hyderabad, nearly 20 IT companies are expected to establish their centres over the next one year or so, said top official of the state government.
“There are many other companies, about 15-20, both national and international, which are planning to set up their centres in the city. We expect these companies to make the final announcement soon. With regard to Google, we have transferred the required seven acres land to them and it is expected to lay the foundation stone for the centre in the first quarter of next year,” said Jayesh Ranjan, IT secretary for the Telangana government.
Mr Ranjan was speaking on the sidelines Hysea’s silver jubilee celebrations on Friday. The secretary said the government intends to encourage some IT companies in setting up their non-critical operations in tier-2 and tier-3 cities.
Under the state’s new IT policy, the secretary said the government “will be providing incentives to companies that go beyond Hyderabad and get into tier-2 and tier-3 cities. We have identified Warangal, Karimnagar, Nizamabad and Khammam to develop the IT hubs. For this purpose, the first level of investment will done by the government as private investment may not happen immediately.” The new IT policy, which was expected to be announced on December 28, may get delayed due to GHMC polls.
