Priest Edwin Figarez seeks bail in rape case

The prosecution case was that the accused sexually abused the girl in his office room.

Kochi: Edwin Figarez, a priest who is an accused in the minor rape case, on Friday moved Kerala High Court seeking bail in the case.

Figarez who was a priest with the Lourdes Matha Church, Puthenvelikkara, submitted that the offences had been falsely raised and had been incorporated with a malafide intention of ruining his future.

He alleged that it was two of his co-priests who had been inimical towards him and had cooked up the false case.

In fact they had forced the mother of the girl to file a case against him because they were envious of the wide acceptance of the petitioner as Dhyana Guru.

Their intention was to harm his reputation, the petition said. The prosecution case was that the accused sexually abused the girl in his office room.

According to the police, the accused despite being a priest committed a heinous crime spoiling the life of an innocent girl. The court adjourned the hearing of the case.
