Hyderabad: A case has been booked against Secunderabad Cantonment Board TRS vice president S. Keshav Reddy at the Bowenpally police station for manhandling SCB staff during demolition of an illegal cellar owned by him in Tadbund. Mr Reddy owns a ground-plus-two building near the Begumpet airport where a cellar was being constructed without seeking permission from the SCB.

In the complaint, SCB health superintendent Mohd Afzal Mohiuddin stated that on December 11 he along with assistant engineer M. Gopala Krishna Das and sanitation inspector A. Mahendra identified the illegal cellar being constructed on Surveys No. 176/2 and 176/3. “Demolition was executed on the same day,” he said.
“The SCB VP along with 10 other persons came to the site and obstructed us from executing our duties. The VP manhandled and used physical force on us. The VP said we had no authority to demolish the illegal cellar and threatened us.” he said.

According to Bowenpally sub-inspector N. Suresh, Mr Reddy has been booked under IPC Sections 353 (assault to deter a public servant from discharging duty), 504 (insult) 506 r/w 34 of IPC. The building in question was originally built in the 90’s; according to Cantonment regulations, even building a first floor near the airport is not allowed though the building is ground plus two. It has also been confirmed that the VP was constructing the cellar without a building permission from the Cantonment board.
The incident might be a setback for the TRS for the forthcoming GHMC elections as the party banks on the SCB candidates in the area.
